Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila is located in the mid-west of Cox's Bazar district. Chakaria upazila to the north, Ramu upazila to the east and south and Bay of Bengal and Maheshkhali upazilas to the west. The area is about 228.23 square kilometers. Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila consists of 10 unions including one municipality. There are 144 villages in 19 mouzas of this upazila. At present the population of this upazila is 4,59,082. About 2011 people live in each square kilometer of this upazila. The average per capita land area is only 0.0497 hectares.

Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila belongs to Agricultural Climate Zones 22, 23 and 29. Apart from agricultural products, salt and shrimp are also produced in this upazila. The cultivation method of Kharif-1 and Kharif-2 of the upazila is rain dependent. Paddy is the main crop of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila. Basically, paddy is cultivated extensively in Rabi and Kharif-2 seasons. Aman is cultivated in 8980 hectares of land and boro paddy in 6900 hectares of land. Besides, vegetables are cultivated in about 1183 hectares of land during Rabi season. Among them various types of winter vegetables including potato, chilli, eggplant, tomato, cabbage, cauliflower are cultivated. There is ample cultivation of coconut and betel in this upazila.
